4 Fun Activities to Wrap Up Summer

The end of August brings with it the first rustlings of autumn as some of us begin to feel summer fatigue and embrace the upcoming season. However, it’s important to remember summer doesn’t actually end until some time around the third week of September. So in an effort to make summer last as long as possible and should the weather be cooperative, here are some fun and easy activities that I intend to indulge in in the final weeks of summer.Maybe this will help you to also extend your summer and hold off autumn for a little while longer.

Spend the evening in a rooftop/garden bar

I’m not an outdoorsy person but I am an outsidey person, especially in the summer time. For clarity, an outdoorsy person enjoys nature for adventures and higher octane activities like hiking, climbing mountains and so on. And outsidey person enjoys nature for fun, ease and leisure. I’m talking picnics, festivals, maybe some glamping. And nothing beats a rooftop or garden bar or party on a balmy summer day, in the late afternoon or evening. Surrounded by friends, laughter and good conversation whilst the sun sets off in the distance. This to me is quintessential summer. I have been st work indoors for most of this summer unfortunately, but before it ends. I’m planning on spending at least one night, if not more outside with friends soaking up the last of the summer sun’s rays. And a rooftop bar with friends, cute drinks and good conversation is just the way to do it. If you can add live music to that mix, it will truly make my summer.

Back yard Movie Night

In lieu of a new TV, earlier this year I bought a projector set. And that projector is currently sitting on a shelf in my living room gathering dust. I have neither unboxed it nor used it. So i’m killing two birds with one stone with this activity. Get the girls together for a final summer hurrah and make good use of the projector, finally

I love a late summer get together with the girls where we can just catch up, let our hair down and maybe give one final shout to summer. Whereas we’d normally do a dinner party or barbecue, this month I’m thinking a backyard movie night. I’ve never hosted a movie night before and for me and my gaggle of 30-something year old girlfriends, movie nights usually revolve around family, mainly kids so I think we would really enjoy a grown up cutesy movie night in the back garden, with popcorn, wine or margs all our favourite chocolates and movie snacks. My vote for the movie to watch would be Pride and Prejudice, the 2005 version (I’m a sucker for this movie and all that yearning) but I think I’ll let the girls choose what we watch, or don’t watch. We’ll probably just put something on in the background while we banter the evening away.

An afternoon in the kitchen, baking

A hobby of mine that I have unfortunately fallen off practicing lately is baking. I do love trying new recipes and baking pastries and cakes to share with family and friends. Unfortunateiy, life happens and if you’re not careful, you find you have less and less time for the hobbies and extra curricular activities that don’t pay the bills or add to your life goals but that just simply bring you joy. But I recently promised myself to get back to doing some more of those activities. So I am clearing an afternoon in my calender during the first week of September to just bake. The plan is to finish off a morning of meetings with a trip to the supermarket to load up on ingredients. Then back home to fire up the oven and get baking. I’ll be starting with my favourite lemon blueberry scones (because lemon and blueberries are so summer to me) Then some strawberry streusel muffins with a strawberry cream cheese filling, (because mmer baking if there aren’t strawberries involved). I may then make some banana nutella bread, (because I am currently going through a nutella phase and I bought a lot of bananas this weekend and if I don’t eat them, they’ll be perfectly ripened by my scheduled baking day.) Then I’ll finish off with as many easy cookie recipes as I can find. I’m sticking wih quick easy bakes so I’m not stressed out and hot but rather relaxing and enjoying my day of baking. Accompanying my baking will be a large glass of some fruity drink and jazz music in the background because this afternoon is all about good vibes. I’m hoping it’s a sunny one so I can throw open my windows and doors, and maybe if I’m lucky, my Disney fairy tale dreams will come true and a little bird might come perch itself on my window while I bake. Then later that evening, I’m planning on packing up some of what I bake to deliver to my brother and some friends who live close by.

Wear an unnecessarily dramatic outfit

This one was inspired by a few movies and may seem redundant but I've just been waiting for an opportunity to just wear an outfit that is big and dramatic and mysterious for no reason at all. Watching stars of old Hollywood movies, like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn put on the most beautiful dresses just for dinner in their own homes, or at beautiful events and parties, has made me want to emulate them and get mysteriously and over the top dressed up for a very low key event. I know it’s the movies and not realistic, but if I wasn’t a designer and entrepreneur, I would have been an actor so let me indulge my dramatic tendencies.

Usually I'm a colour loving girl, which if you're familiar with this brand will come as no shock to you. So in order for this outfit to really make the statement I want, I'm planning on going all black. A big black dress, a ridiculous large brimmed hat, black heels, a black bag with diamanté details and a tennis bracelet to match. The only colour in this outfit will be the bold red lipstick. Now, where should I wear this outfit to? Anybody have any late summer events they want to invite me to?
