When a piece of clothing is well made, and you pay good money for it, you deserve to wear it over and over again. Here at Mode by Taylor, we believe in this value and we're committed to helping you live it out. With that in mind, we're introducing our style Guide series so you have ideas for different ways to style, wear and rewear your Mode by Taylor pieces.
When we deased the Jackie dress earliuer this year, we were thinking of it as the ultimate wedding guest/summer vacation dress. But as usual, you guys took the dress and made it your own, styling and wearing it in your own way for multiple occasions. And inspired by where and how you are wearing the Jackie dress so far, we are styling it here for three different cities. The Jackie dress is unapologetically feminine and bold. This story of this dress begins in old Hollywood, inspired by how the heroines of these classy movies would dress. So we begin with the flowy, full skirted ankle length silhouette which is elaceful and never goes out of style. To modernise that silhouette, AJ,our designer went for an off shoulder neckline. Bold sexy but still very classy and timeless. The Jackie dress one that you will reach for whenever you want to be your most ladylike self.
Here’s how we’d style it in Paris, London and Accra. Now, the question is what event are you attending in what city in these looks?
Paris
Parisian style is the ultimate in casual chic and timeless style. The aesthetic is always classic, a look that is almost ageless, defined by chic accessories and details like scarves, classic shoes or that perfectly understated designer bag. Parisians like to invest in quality.
The attitude is nonchalant, never try hard but the end result is elegant and long lasting. Think looks that will never date for years and decades to come. Real timeless style.
Inspired by the timeless, nonchalant elegance of Paris, our look is classic, with our dress as the centre of attention. The details are understated, not designed to be too bold from a distance but look closer and you’ll see details that bring our outfit to life. Lace and sheer details on the shoes and gloves scream elegant femininity without being too loud. The jewelry is gold and pearls, simple, dainty and still very classy. The whole look is not loud or bold, but rather soft and easy. And it’s a look that will not date for years to come, truly timeless. And quietly whispers elegant
London
London style is quirky, off beat and ecclectic, characterised by creativity, boldness and heavily influenced by the weather because no matter the time of year, rain and cold breezes can unexpectedly descend at anytime. This means coats, trenches and blazers are uniform details.
But underneath the necessary outerwear, stylish londoners have fun with the rest of their looks, leaning into prints and unexpected textures and statement accessories. The aesthetic here is chic, fun and daring whilst always making room for the weather.
Inspired by a combination of the London weather and that daring London style, we’re going for bold yet covered details on the London look. Not a typically colourful city, we’re once again letting the dress be the only bold colour on our look. And keeping the rest of the look neutral. But neutral in this case doesn’t mean boring. After putting a sheer turtleneck under our dress to keep us warm but also to add some quirkiness to our dress, we’re throwing an attention grabbing faux fur coat over our shoulder. So quirky and so London. A pair of over the knee boots will keep us dry but also add a bold and quirky dimension to our outfit. We’re finishing off with a bag that perfectly hits that timeless yet quirky vibe, in black leather to match our boots. In this outfit, we are dry, warm and above all else, London fabulous.
Accra
Whenever I’m back in Ghana have to get ready for an event, Iimmediately think to myself, “just do the most”. And that to me perfectly encapsulates Acrra style.
Accra style is bold, colourful and over the top. It's a mixture of elements and textures such as beading, weaves, metallics, thrown together, shaken around and then streamlined. The result is a look that stands out from a mile away, blending together elements that shouldn't work but do.
Silhouettes are unforgivingly cut, designed to flatter and show off the body in all it's glory whether on women or men. In Accra, as in most other west African cities, the style ethos is go big or go home. Everyone dresses to be the centre of attention and no detail is left to chance. Hair, makeup, outfit and accessories, everything must shine and everything is big and bold.
For our Accra look, we had to go big, big on everything. Thankfully the Jackie dress is naturally big. A bold standout blue colour, a full flowy skirt and that snatched top, this dress is perfect for a go big look. The rest of our outfit is all about upping the ante. Accessories here are big and gold and bold. The bracelet and earrings were chosen to stand out and be seen from across the room. And of course, we are playing with texture on these pieces also. A gorgeous pair of sling back heels work but we’re doing more by going for a pair with bows. The idea is that every part of this look should give you something more to look at. To finish off our look, a textured gold clutch that will catch the sun as we move and send light rays all over under Accra sun. And in lieu of a head wrap as an African woman would do, a big gold headband to sit on top of our well styled hair. Extra details for this look would be a gorgeous makeup look and extremely well manicured nails. No detail can be left undone with this look.
