Style Guide- The Sienna Dress
When a piece of clothing is well made, and you pay good money for it, you deserve to wear it over and over again. Here at Mode by Taylor, we believe in this value and we're committed to helping you live it out. With that in mind, we're introducing our style Guide series so you have ideas for different ways to style, wear and rewear your Mode by Taylor pieces.
The Sienna dress with it’s bold colour, snatching corset top with asymmetrical neckline and extra full skirt may not seem like the nd of piece that you will wear over and over again. It’s the kind of dress that might seem to recognisable, making it feel like you cannot create a different look with it every time, but you would be wrong for thinking that. Yes, the Sienna is bold and memorable, but it’s also a versatile dress that can allow you to tell many different stories with and about your style and personality depending on the accessories you pair it with. The boldness of the dress means you will stand out in it, so why not tell a story through your style whenever you wear it.
The silhouette of the Sienna dress is feminine, classy and fun all at once. This is the kind of dress that makes a woman feel good and gorgeous. Whenever I put this dress on, and the corset snatches my upper body, while flaring out into that full flowy skirt that just makes me want to twirl about, I just feel amazing. And let’s not forget the pockets and that very flattering neckline.
I have styled 3 outfits here to give you some ideas on how you use different accessories to style the Sienna dress and invoke a different personality each time, plus some extra tips at the end for you to get even more ear out of your dress. And remember the Sienna dress also comes in black, and can be custom made for you in a colour of your choice so if red is not your vibe, just pick your colour, and tell your stories
Like most of ther Mode Queens who have bought the Sienna dress this year, you may be thinking this is a sunny day occasion dress, due to it’s sleeveless nature. But that is not entirely true. A strapless dress like this is most versatile because when the the weather is hot or the occasion calls for it, it allows you to bare your shoulders and feel free but when the weather cools down or if the occasion calls for more covering up, a top underneath or a stole or shawl over the shoulders will take absolutely nothing away from the dress. That makes this dress a perfect year round occasion wear dress. Here I’ve styled it with a fitted turtle neck underneath the dress. A sleek and understated styling detail that allows you to be covered up without distracting from the bold sexiness of the dress.Assuming this is an autumn/winter event, we’re finishing off the look with a pair of bold boots. I love slipping a bold statement boot underneath a dainty dress, the contrast is edgy and powerful in a unique that I really like. To play up the icy cold vibes weather, we’re going for silver jewelry. A chunky bracelet over your long sleeves will look super chic. A black marble bag nicely ties together the black on the boots and the silver jewelry beautifully.
Want an outfit that screams instantly chic and classy? Try monochrome, and stick with the same colours all over your outfit. But then the thing about red is that it’s also colour that screams danger. This particular outfit makes me think of the typical old movie femme fatale, beautiful, immaculately put together and looking like she could end you with just one look. But obviously, you’re not actually going to harny one in this look. We’re going more for the powerful bold angle. This look is for when you want to feel and be your most confident self. The red on the Sienna dress, the red on the heels and the red on the bag gives you a cohesive vibe that is clean, crisp and just works. In this case, the flower bag and tie heels soften the look and add even more femininity. To keep the look from being too samey, I’ve gone for gold jewelry instead of red. But to stay on our bold dangerous theme, the jewelry is big and cagey, making it feel like the wearer is coming to trap you in their web. The details on this look are fun and all lend themselves to the story we’re telling here. Of course, if you’re not worried about the samey look, then keep your jewelry red and really lean into the monochrome vibe. And to finish off our bold monochrome story, we’re calling on a classic hallmark of our movie femme fatale, red lipstick!! In this look, be careful hun. You might just do some real damage by just showing up
At first glance, the Sienna dress doesn’t necessarily scream quirky or artistic, but with the right accessories, we can do anything with this dress. For a quirky or funky vibe with this look, we’re piling colour on top of colour and just having fun. Red and yellow goes together, so let’s start there. Yellow wedge heels that feel unique and almost dainty pair beautifully with our very feminine dress whilst still feeling fun and free. I found a pair of chunky rainbow wedges during my research to put these looks together that would have worked just as well with this look. The point here is any colour that goes with red, which can really be any colour, can work with this look. It’s all about showing out, having fun and playing with details and colours we like. Having picked our base as red and yellow, I decided to stay in that family for the rest of our look. First up, gold jewelry to match our yellow shoes. But leaning into that artistic feel we want for this look, the jewelry has to be big and structural. These earrngs and Bracelets from the Khoi brand are perfect. Bold, structured and artistic in their own right, they really bring the bold vibe we are going for here. To finish off, I found this bag that not only matches the red on of our dress, the yellow (sort off) in our shoes, but is also beaded and in the design and shape of a strawberry. What screams more fun and artistic than a fruit bag.I love this bag so much. And I love that it introduces a green colour, adding another layer to our artistic vibe. And a trick to bear in mind if you’re playing with colour but you’re not too confident. Stick with 3 colours and repeat them over and over all throughout your look. Or do what we did here, 2 colours repeated in different tones and a third colour as a pop on it’s own.
Extra Styling tips for the Sienna Dress.
to get more looks and life out of your sienna dress try
Tucking in the corset top, adding a thick waist belt and wear the dress as a full skirt. The Skirt on the Sienna alone can be such a good base for many gorgeous timeless femenine looks. Try pairing it with a turtle neck and boots for a classy, never dated autumn/winter look that will work for a variety of occasions.
Pin up the top layer of the Sienna skirt, exposing the petticoat underneath and t an assymetrical hem look. This gives the whole dress a completely different look and vibe and allows you even more styling options.
Go old holly wood for inspiration. The silhouette of the Sienna feels very old school yet modern at the same time. The snatching top and full skirt style works just as well now as it would have done in a movie from the 50’s. So look to the old stars like Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, and think how would they wear it, for some styling inspiration.
